Spotlight – Darrell Nutt

Spotlight on the wonderfully talented musicians who performed on The Jones Thing’s upcoming album “Ephemeral Oddities”

Darrell Nutt – drums and percussion
Fort Myers, Florida – drummer and producer and so much more

After I had assembled enough demos that I wanted to flesh out, I started looking for a drummer who could record his own tracks. I spent about 3 weeks reviewing over 50 drummers – they had to be top-notch, because to me, the drums are the most important part of any song to me. Without the rhythm and the groove you’ve got nothing. The difficulty was finding someone who could play all sorts of styles, while having a keen ear for the songs themselves. Some could swing but not rock, others could jam but anything other than 4/4 time signatures sounded off. I finally found Darrell and just threw him all of the unfinished demos and said have at it, do your thing. Within a week I had tons of drums, expertly tracked. Songs like ‘Theme for a Buddy Detective Show’ really show of his chops while ‘Paper Taken by the Wind’ highlight his originality and creativity. He can do it all and do it perfect while writing parts for the sake of the song.
